Thanatopraxie

The task of creating a brand for Thanatopraxie, a treatment that delays the decomposition of a deceased person for about seven days, required a delicate and thoughtful design approach. It was important to handle the sensitive themes of death and preservation with empathy and respect.

To embody these principles, we drew inspiration from the metaphor of dried flowers—natural elements preserved for their enduring beauty.

Our design concept, summarized by the phrase “Een waardig afscheid, voor altijd gekoesterd” (A dignified farewell, forever cherished), shaped both the visual identity and user experience. We crafted a calming and warm atmosphere through large areas of muted, comforting colors and close-up images of delicately arranged dried flowers. This approach aimed to convey the story and process of Thanatopraxie in a way that felt respectful, gentle, and comforting.

Our approach not only helped demystify Thanatopraxie but also made the experience approachable for families navigating a difficult time. Through the use of thoughtfully selected visuals and user-friendly design, we successfully translated a challenging subject into a comforting brand that honors the memory of a loved one with dignity.

The UX/UI design focused on creating a serene digital experience that aligned with the essence of the brand. We incorporated smooth transitions and minimalistic layouts to reflect the tranquility associated with the process. Large images and subtle design elements evoked a sense of timelessness, mirroring the way Thanatopraxie allows families to hold onto a precious moment a little longer.
